The YRBS is administered in Indiana through the Indiana State Department of Health. For more information please visit: in.gov/yrbs The Indiana Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) is part of a nationwide surveying effort led and funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to monitor students' health risks and behaviors in six categories, including: Weight and diet Physical activity Injury and violence Tobacco use Alcohol and other drug use Sexual behaviors The YRBS is conducted every two years among a representative group of Indiana students in grades 9–12. Data from individual students and schools are confidential. The CDC analyzed the data and then provided the results to each participating state. In 2015, the Indiana State Department of Health administered the YRBS in high schools across the state. Forty-three high schools and 1,912 students participated. The YRBS provides comparable local, state, and national data, as well as comparable data among subpopulations of youth. Health officials can use the data to monitor progress towards achieving the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Healthy People 2020 objectives as well as to guide health programs. Indiana schools, local health departments, and other youth-serving organizations can also use this data to demonstrate the need for services when applying for grants.
