What is Portland Utrecht Network? The Portland Utrecht Network (PUN) is part of the non-profit 501(c)(3) Portland Dutch Society managing the Friendship City relationship between Portland (USA) and Utrecht (The Netherlands). Its mission is to promote lasting bonds between the people of Portland and Utrecht by sharing experiences, running collaborative projects, and increase economic, educational and cultural connections for the greater good of each city and its people. What is DE STIJL? DE STIJL (the STYLE in english) is an artistic movement founded in the Netherlands in 1917 that developed a global reach and had a lasting international influence. DE STIJL advocated pure abstraction and universality by a reduction to the essentials of form and color. Key artists of DE STIJL were Pieter Mondrian, Gerrit Rietveld, Theo Van Doesburg. Yes, in fact, the Portland Utrecht Network has planned three activities related to DE STIJL: A theatrical performance Rietveld's Daughter written and performed by Utrecht actress Audrey Bolder  performed at Studio Theater at PSU (a total of 4 performances).  An evening lecture at the Portland Art Museum about Rietveld, Utrecht and DE STIJL by Utrecht art historian Mathijs Meinderts.   The unveiling of the Portland-Utrecht Friendship City mural.  Who sponsored the DE STIJL events? The play, mural, and lecture about DE STIJL were made possible by generous grants from the city of Utrecht, the Dutch Government, the Regional Art and Culture Council (RACC), the Portland Dutch Society, and with monetary and in kind donations by many art loving individuals in both Portland and Utrecht.
