Capitalizes on the unique qualities of the region & increases filmproduction while fostering & driving the development of a creative & sustainable industry The Region The Hunter and Central Coast regions of NSW are home to some of the most diverse and dynamic cinemagraphic locations in Australia. From the sand dunes, waterways and beaches along the coast to the vineyards, rainforests and ranges of the Hunter Valley, to the snow capped mountains of the Barrington Tops World Heritage area the region is abundant with spectacular locations. Add the farmlands, inland rivers, sweeping planes, horse studs and open cut mines further inland, the impressive collection of historic architecture and the notorious Maitland Gaol and it becomes evident these combined regions really do have it all. The Office (Screen Hunter Central Coast) is a one-stop-shop that last year saw 239 film productions film in the region, employing 1,818 local crew and businesses, resulting in $6.3 million in regional spend. The Office currently has ‘delegation of authority’ to issue film permits for 11 Councils and 5 National Parks in the Hunter Region. We also act as an agent for other locations that include industrial sites, vineyards and private homes and businesses. Being the first point of contact gives us the opportunity to pitch and up-sell our locations and local film personnel to the filmmakers on our continually growing database. The Office has also formed partnerships with the 11 Hunter and Central Coast Tourism Offices where we share local knowledge and business contacts. This assists with our location searches and enables us to fulfil the majority of creative briefs and ultimately drive local spend in the region. The region starts an hour up the F3 freeway from Sydney at the Moonee Moonee Bridge and stretches all the way to Forster in the North and across to Merriwa in the west. The region is home to the largest coastal salt water lake in Australia – (Lake Macquarie); spectacular World Heritage Areas; vast industrial, and farming landscapes; and areas of both historical and cultural significance. The region is easily accessible via Newcastle airport providing direct flights to all major cities on the eastern seaboard, and its only a 30 minute flight from Sydney. Our Vision Our vision is to be recognised as the most productive film destination in regional Australia.
