THE WOMEN’S THERAPY CENTRE INSTITUTE grew directly out of feminism’s second wave. A group of psychotherapists, including Luise Eichenbaum, Susie Orbach, and Carol Bloom, formed a study group that challenged many existing intellectual and social paradigms. Together, they founded The WTCI in 1981. Today, we understand that a person’s socioeconomic and cultural location is integral to psychic and emotional development. Through education and a commitment to social activism, The WTCI holds a unique place at the intersection of the psychoanalytic community, the feminist movement, and the public at large. Our two-year training program offers innovative clinical training based on contemporary psychoanalytic theory and feminist thought.  We educate postgraduate clinicians in a feminist relational model. Our Program will begin in January, 2017. For more information, contact wtcinyc@mac.com. In our workshops, lectures, community activism and training program, the ethos of The WTCI embraces diversity. Continual and reflexive exploration of our bodies, our psyches, and our identities in relation to complex social justice issues--such as body size, abilities, age, race and ethnicities, genders, sexualities, and class—is a key focus of our institute at every level. The WTCI is a place for critical thinking and offers a vibrant community committed to a mission of social change. The Women's Therapy Centre Institute Training Program is recognized by the New York State Education Department's State Board for Social Workers as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers #SW-0361.
