Waverly Hills Historical Society was incorporated in 2003 for the purpose of preserving and restoring Waverly Hills Sanatorium, a former tuberculosis hospital in Louisville, Ky, memorializing the staff, patients, and those touched by the sanatorium as well as educating the public about the history of tuberculosis, it's effects and impact on the local community. TB was widespread in the area, resulting in a waiting list to stay at the sanatorium. Thousands of patients and staff passed through Waverly, contributing to both the growth of Louisville, Ky as well as touching thousands of people's lives. Waverly Hills Sanatorium is on the National Register of Historic Places for both its significance historically, as well as the architectural significance of the building. The Waverly Hills Historical Society is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and operates fundraising activities to accomplish its purpose. These include tours both historical and paranormal, as well as an annual haunted house and Christmas laser light show. Other fundraising activities are held throughout the year, and donations are accepted. The goal of the Waverly Hills Historical Society for the building is to restore it and turn it into usable space to once again be a staple of the local community and Louisville, Ky. The plans are to use the building as a destination hotel, conference center, and museum. This will enable Waverly to not only contribute back to the local community through economic and historical means but also continue to educate the public of the impact TB and Waverly had.  Select a Tour to view available dates!
