Women in Media

Women in Media (‘WiM’) is a networking initiative for women in media modelled on a successful group first established in WA in 2005. The WA founders – a team of enthusiastic, high-profile women journalists from a range of media outlets – created WiM out of a belief that solidarity in journalism was vital in ensuring good working conditions, more opportunities for women and credible journalism. With the proud support of MEAA and the Walkley Foundation for Journalism, WiM will continue the great work of WA colleagues and expand the network nationally to increase networking opportunities for women working in media, improve workforce outcomes and provide valuable mentoring from senior industry leaders for younger and mid-career women. In support of the initiative, MEAA is campaigning for paid superannuation during periods of unpaid parental leave for all media workers. Closing the gender gap in pay, retirement income and career opportunity is also central to what MEAA wants to achieve through this program.
