The goal is to help reduce resistance to care and foster participation and use of preserved skills. To do this, the workshop will guide learners to help them develop better observational skills to recognize and intervene effectively when behavioral challenges occur. We will work on hands-on ways of communicating and assisting with daily life and in times of distress. By the completion of the session, learners will have new tools that will be applied throughout the rest of the workshop. TEEPA’s care strategies and techniques look at what is known about brain function and changes that happen with various conditions and integrate that information with therapeutic approaches. These approaches foster positive outcomes, encourage alteration of in task expectations, and create supportive environments that match retained and available abilities of people living with various forms of brain change and deterioration. She teaches about the value of connection when primary verbal communication and interaction abilities are altered.
