After being orphaned at 11 years old, Carole Klyce spent her
adolescence running. Now, The Marsh Berkeley presents her riveting
journey as a runaway in Klyce’s debut stage production, Flight Risk.
Labeled “incorrigible,” young Carole lived life on the lam, from
fleeing a group foster home to escaping from a juvenile correction
facility. A child at large throughout New Jersey, Carole sports many
names and takes on a male identity for safety, working restaurants,
fields, and with the Italian mob to support herself. Throughout her
journey she is cared for by unlikely mentors, including a gruff
Italian ex-con chef, a retired Las Vegas showgirl, and the only Black
man in a rural town. Flight Risk chronicles the six years that Carole
spent self-educating and surviving by the skin of her teeth. Central
Works founding member and associate artist Deb Fink directs.
