Our summer series is presented in collaboration with The Freight.
Pedro José Pastrana is a music creator blending Puerto Rican folk jíbaro music into the Latin jazz tradition. His two albums as a leader, Crónicas de la pierna inquieta and Lo que nos llevamos present original compositions and arrangements featuring the Puerto Rican cuatro as the lead instrument. As a sideman, Pedro has redefined the versatility of the Puerto Rican cuatro in Latin Jazz by working with artists like John Santos, the Spanish Harlem Orchestra, and the Oakland Symphony. He is a graduate of the California Jazz Conservatory.
