Once called the Paris of the West, San Francisco was previously home
to Frenchmen seeking riches during the Gold Rush. Now, Belden Place
and the surrounding area continue to provide visitors with a
European-inspired escape within the downtown core. In the mid-90s, San
Francisco restaurateur and owner of Cafe Bastille Olivier Azancot
hosted the first ‘Bastille on Belden’ as a rollicking Bastille Day
celebration crammed into downtown’s narrow Belden Place. Azancot
eventually retired from hosting the event after 20 years, and DSFP
brought the beloved celebration back from an eight-year hiatus in
2022.
