The guiding mission statement is: "Furthering inter-cultural understanding and peace through the universal language of the arts." And here is the most wonderful piece of history that ties directly to your question about arts and peace: Althya Youngman believed that the arts transcend cultures. She had toured the world as a singer and pianist and witnessed firsthand that the arts bring people together in harmony. Part of her epiphany came while studying with Mahatma Gandhi in India. Althya was speaking with Father Alfred Boeddeker one afternoon in the early 1980s, who said: "The arts are the oil in the machinery of mankind, for man cannot live by bread alone, but must have beauty to feed the soul."  That quote — while from Father Boeddeker, not Gandhi — was one that deeply inspired Althya's mission and is closely associated with AEI's work in the Arts. dancingpoetry.com
