AMATUER RADIO SUMMER FIELD DAY SATURDAY JUNE 27 11-5 KENSINGTON PARK
You are cordially invited to attend and participate in our exciting demonstration of Kensington, El Cerrito and neighboring communities emergency communication preparedness.
Our local emergency citizen communications groups, KARO-ECHO and EBARC are hosting a HANDS ON demonstration of HAM radio operations at Kensington Park on Saturday June 27 from 11AM to 5PM. HAM radio operators from Kensington, El Cerrito, Albany, Richmond, Berkeley and neighboring communities will demonstrate their radio communications as part of a nationwide exercise preparing citizen communication groups for emergencies that require them to set up temporary transmitting stations in public places. Field Day combines public service, emergency preparedness, community outreach, and technical skills all in a single event.
This is a great opportunity to meet local HAM radio members in person who in the event of a disaster will provide communications, situational awareness and assist with resource allocation all while operating totally off the grid and without the need for cell towers or any other equipment. It’s very exciting to see the high antennas and radio equipment in action and you will have the opportunity to get on the radio and speak to people in far off places across the United States and internationally. It’s also a chance to learn how local residents can get involved with amateur radio. There will be an educational class starting at 1PM in the Kensington Community Center.
