BUY ART, NOT VICES is a panel discussion and silent art auction that
aims to be a celebration of black history and culture, as well as an
opportunity to have a real discussion with industry influencers about
the importance and value of buying art as opposed to materialistic
vices.
The artwork will depict black history across various time periods
through the eyes of local artists. Each artist will select an era in
black history (ranging from ancient Africa, to slavery,
reconstruction, the great migration, civil rights movement, the Motown
era, 90s hip hop, the first black president, the future, etc.) and
create with that era in mind. The work will be exhibited at NYCH
GALLERY through March 1st and will be sold via silent auction. A
portion of the proceeds from the auction will be donated to the _gray
matter experience_ [http://www.graymatterexperience.com/], a local
nonprofit organization exposing black youth to entrepreneurship and
providing access to tools and resources to help them build businesses
that impact their communities.
The event will include a panel discussion featuring local artists,
curators and gallery owners regarding the importance of buying art and
supporting artists in the community, followed by a cocktail reception
and lite bites.
