Mishima Ceramics - Fall session (Instructor: Pam Hansen) - Kittery, ME 2026

The Mishima technique can be traced back to its origin in Korea. This technique will be applied on a hand-built plate during this class. With this ceramic technique, the student will inlay slip (rather than scratch the top layer as in Sgraffito) to reveal a design of the student’s choosing. You’ll apply slip to the plate, apply wax resist on top, scratch your design into your leather-hard plate, then fill the lines in with color, to produce intricate lines and patterns.
