MECADON MCCUNE IS AN EMERGING FORCE IN CONTEMPORARY JAZZ, known for his expressive drumming, compositional insight, and leadership on the bandstand. Born into a deeply musical family in Newark, New Jersey, he was immersed in music from a young age — his father, Brandon MCCUNE, is a veteran jazz pianist and multi-instrumentalist, and his mother, Christine Clemmons-MCCUNE, is an opera singer. MCCUNE BEGAN HIS MUSICAL JOURNEY ON PIANO BEFORE TRANSITIONING TO DRUMS IN HIGH SCHOOL, where his passion for rhythm and improvisation took root under the mentorship of educators who recognized his talent early on. McCune’s craft has been recognized with prestigious honors, including the $10,000 James Moody Jazz Scholarship, awarded for his musicianship and commitment to jazz performance as he studies Jazz Performance at Montclair State University.
