The Hegeman provides permanent, affordable housing for single adults in the Brownsville neighborhood of Brooklyn. The six story structure offers studio apartments for formerly homeless indviduals with special needs, persons with HIV/AIDS and low-income residents, many from the local community. The design by CookFox Architects is insprired by biophilic principles and obtained a LEED Silver cerrification by focusing on indoor air quality and energy efficiency. The brick exterior is carefully detailed to provide an unusually elegant facade for affordable housing.
