“Incredible storyteller” and performer
Lisa Faith Phillips
weaves funny and touching tales of George Gershwin’s love affairs and the songs they inspired on April 30 at 7:00 at the Triad Theater.
From the adorable Adele Astaire, Broadway star and Fred’s sister, to married composer Kay Swift, and his last love Paulette Goddard (Charlie Chaplin’s wife at the time), and many others (often at the same time), women and men found him irresistible. All the while his shy, retiring brother Ira transformed George’s escapades into clever lyrics, blending perfectly with George’s unforgettable melodies, to create some of the great love songs of the American Songbook.
You’ll love the marvelous song renditions by Lisa, the great jazz singer Deanna Kirk with the brilliant John Di Martino on piano.
Having stripped to the Gershwin’s songs while working as a stripper to pay for graduate school at the London School of Economics, Lisa adds a rollicking fun striptease to one of her favorite Gershwin songs.
