ABOUT JIWON YANG:
Jiwon Yang debuted in January 2012 at 9 years old, performing solo
recitals at Mozart Hall and Kumho Art Hall in Seoul, South Korea.
Jiwon has won many awards, including 3rd Prize at the 2025 ARD
International Music Competition in Munich, Germany, 3rd Prize at the
2019 Cliburn International Junior Piano Competition, 3rd Prize at the
2018 Cleveland International Piano Competition for Young Pianists,
Diploma at the 2nd Grand Piano Competition in 2018, First Prize at the
Dong-a concours, Young-chang concours in 2017, 2nd Prize at the Liszt
concours in 2017, 2nd Prize at the 2015 3rd International Festival
of Classical Music & Competition for Young Pianists “Astana Piano
Passion” in Kazakhstan, and 4th Prize at the 2015 1st Zhuhai
International Mozart Competition for Young Musicians in China.
Jiwon has performed with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the
Munich Chamber Orchestra, the Camerata New York Orchestra, the Dallas
Symphony Orchestra, the Irkutsk philharmonic, the Canton Symphony
Orchestra, the State Academic Symphony Orchestra, and the Astana
philharmonic. She was a Salzburg Chamber Soloist in 2015. She has
collaborated with Richard Owen, Sasha Scolnik-Brower, Ruth Reinhardt,
Alexander Sladkovsky, and Gerhardt Zimmermann.
She has performed a solo recital at the Kumho Art Hall in November
2016 for the Kumho Foundation Prodigy Invitation Series, and a solo
recital at the Cultural Center of the Philippines in February
2014. In April 2014, she performed for the Philippines Chopin
Society, and for St. Paul University of Philippines in July 2013.
She also performed a solo recital at Russia Irkutsk ‘Stars on Baikal
Festival’ in September 2018. Since the Fall of 2020, Jiwon has
participated in numerous Mannes Sounds Festival events. She has also
given performances in numerous concert venues throughout New York,
including Steinway Hall and Carnegie Weill Hall. Since 2022, she has
been invited by the American Yacht Club and the New York Yacht Club to
give solo recitals. In 2023, Jiwon was invited to perform a solo
recital at the Frick Collection, Penn Club of New York celebrating
Frederic Chopin’s 213th birthday, and at the University Club of New
York. In May 2023, as a former prize winner of the Van Cliburn
International Junior Competition, she was invited to Texas by the
Cliburn and performed in the Lewisville Theater in Forth Worth. Every
May since 2022, she has performed at the closing concert of Mannes
Sounds Festival in Weill Hall, Carnegie Hall.
Jiwon graduated from the BM program at Mannes and is currently in the
MM program on a full scholarship, where she studies with Richard Goode
and Pavlina Dokovska. She studied under Hyoung Joon Chang in Korea
and has also participated in master classes with John O’Conor,
Ronan O’Hora, Christopher Elton, Thierry Huillet, Pascal Roge,
Alexander Braginsky, Roberto Plano, Maxim Mogilevsky, Ekaterina
Mechetina, Gerrit Zitterbart, and Hye-kyoung Seo.
