Performer: DeVone Young, Storyteller, A Cappella Musician, Historian

With the belief that music can heal, this North Carolina native blends iconic music—from such performers as Mahalia Jackson, Sam Cooke, and the Freedom Singers—with a history of civil rights struggles in the African American experience. Young is a retired combat veteran (US Army) and graduate of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro; she currently lives in Rolesville.
