Families of children with AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER (ASD) are seen in a variety of medical and community settings.What are the essential programs and resources professionals should know about in order to work effectively with these families? Social Workers from Texas Children's Autism Center and Meyer Center for Developmental Pediatrics will answer the following questions: What is ASD? How is it diagnosed? What is the difference between a medical diagnosis and an educational eligibility determination? What is ABA therapy? How do families access therapies and school services? What insurance, Medicaid, SSI and other financial resources are available? How can families become effective advocates for their children?
