Anita Carson
WHEN: Monday, February 16, 2026 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
You can join the meeting starting at 6:15.
WHERE: This is a virtual event.
MEETING DESCRIPTION: LGBTQ+ people in Florida live in a state where
policy and rhetoric have increasingly targeted our community.
Together, we will examine the hardships created by discriminatory laws
and hostile political climates, while also highlighting the victories
achieved through organizing, advocacy, and collective resistance.
Attendees will learn how grassroots efforts, legal challenges, and
intersectionality have made a meaningful difference, and how continued
engagement can help defend and expand LGBTQ+ rights in Florida. This
presentation is both a call to action and a reminder that resistance
is not only necessary, it works!
MEET THE SPEAKER: Anita Carson is the Director of Field and Community
Organizing for Equality Florida, where she works to build lasting
political power within LGBTQ communities across the state. With a
background as an educator and labor organizer, Anita believes deeply
in the power of grassroots organizing, intersectionality, and
collective action to create meaningful change. Her work is grounded in
the belief that safe, welcoming schools and communities are essential
for people to thrive, and that progress is strongest when led by those
most impacted. As an LGBTQ person, Anita was compelled to leave her
decade long teaching career after discriminatory policies threatened
to make it impossible to authentically support LGBTQ students and
educators. She now dedicates her work to empowering local communities
to advocate for equity, dignity, and justice through sustained,
people-powered organizing.
This is an online Zoom event from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm ET. Zoom room
opens at 6:15pm.
